Earlier this year, I got the privilege to begin training with our local community’s volunteer fire department. While there have been no others newer than me, they’ve been hugely welcoming, and always willing to help me learn the firefighter job. Oh, and we do medical first responder duties as well, which I do actually know a bit about.

There hasn’t been a new recruit class yet since I’ve joined, but last Saturday, they sent three of us to go through the Live Fire I course in Nanaimo BC. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I came home tired, sweaty, grubby as hell, and grinning from ear to ear.

This building may look like something out of a Quake deathmatch map, but it was our home for the day. Awesome learning experience, and can’t wait to see what’s next.
